Mangala artist Maggie Green of Spinifex Hill Studio grew up with her family on Myroodah Station, a sheep and cattle station in the remote West Kimberley Region. Her latest solo show, ‘My Life’, comprises 13 artworks that tell the stories and geography of this place and time.
Underneath each piece is the same blue print: two lines down the centre of the work to represent the road at Myroodah Station, followed by a square on either side to represent the school and toilet block.
From there, Maggie layers dense fields of coloured dot work over the original design, obscuring the neat footprint with vibrant palettes, intuitive shapes and heavy textures.
Separating colour-blocked shapes with organic, fluid lines, Maggie creates scenery tinged with emotion, memory and texture in vivid hues and pastel shades.
